It was reported that there are at least 12 five-star hotels currently under construction within the main districts of Tianhe, Yuexiu and Haizhu in Guangzhou in anticipation of the Asian Games in November 2010.
New hotels include W Hotel Guangzhou, Marriott Grandview Plaza and Sheraton Guangzhou Hotel and these hotels are expected to add a total of 4,675 rooms to the city's existing inventory of 8,117 rooms.
In 2009, Guangzhou recorded a Gross Domestic Product of approximately US$133.3 billion, reflecting an 11.5% growth from 2008.
