Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Saeed Al Nahayan has been named as chairman of the Greek Aquis.
The Sheikh is a member of the UAE state's royal family and he takes the roll over form David Howell, executive chairman of luxury operator Western & Oriental, who will become the vice-chairman of Aquis.
The recently established Mediterranean upmarket hotel chain, with 5 hotels operational, has attracted significant funding from Abu Dhabi, so the involvement of Nahayan is major achievement by Aquis at a time of global economic uncertainty. Sources tell 4Hoteliers.com, that a multi-million pound capital injection is being made into the company.
Abu Dhabi is the major investor in several hotels worldwide including the UK.
Aquis' expansion plans include the opening of another 30 hotels in the region.
