In the article, different players, including operators, hotel managers, and developers, in the Chinese hotel industry voiced their opinions on the impact of COVID-19 and outlook for the coming year.
Overall, occupancy rates trend below the level of 2019. In 2020 and 2021, economy hotel had the least impact, because a great number of hotels were contracted as quarantine facilities.

Despite the demand driven by domestic travellers in 2021 and 2022, the strict control of movement continues to affect the occupancy rate in all tiers.

Research Methodology
To better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Chinese hotel industry, AP conducted a survey on the hotel industry performance and outlook in Greater China. Participants of the survey include hotel owners & developers, management of hotels, hotel operators and hotel staff. The total sample size of the survey is 539.
