Jay Caiafa has been promoted at InterContinental Hotels Group to Chief Operating Officer – The Americas. He has been with the company for over 6 years, most recently as Senior Vice President, Hotel Lifecycle and Growth.

Peter Clarke has been promoted at InterContinental Hotels and Resorts to Vice President of Operations USA. Prior to this role, Clarke was Vice President of Operations, West Coast. He rejoined IHG in Cleveland as Regional Director of Operations after many years in Asia and Europe with Four Seasons and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

Red Lion Hotels has officially named John J. Russell, Jr., Chief Executive Officer, after serving as interim CEO since December 2019. He was previously serving as President and COO of Sentry Hospitality and is the former Senior Vice President, Guest Experience, Education and Development, at the Georgia Aquarium.

Peter Tischmann has been named Chief Operating Officer, Hospitality, of the Gulf Bay Group of Companies in Naples. He was most recently with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants as Regional Director of Restaurant Operations – FL, TX, GA and Caribbean. Tischmann is the former Executive Assistant Manager, Food and Beverage of the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman.

Eugene Leonard has joined the Maybourne Beverly Hills (the former Montage Beverly Hills) as General Manager. He has been with the group since 2008, most recently as the Hotel Manager at Claridge’s. Leonard is the former Hotel Manager of the Connaught.

Sam Jagger has returned to the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica as General Manager. He had previously served as Director of Sales and Marketing for the resort before serving as General Manager of Mr. C by Cipriani for the past ten years.

Karl Bublitz has been named General Manager of the Seagate Country Club, Seagate Beach Club and Seagate Residences. Bublitz spent the past 16 years as Director of Golf Operations at the Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Florida.

Mike Hill has been appointed General Manager at the Heathman Hotel Kirkland. He is the former General Manager of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Seattle, the Kimpton Hotel Vintage Seattle, and the Kimpton Grand Hotel Minneapolis.

The Enchantment Group has appointed Alex Kim President. For the past 5 years, Kim had been at the Ojai Valley Inn as Managing Director. Kim previously was the General Manager of Meadowood, and of the One&Only Ocean Club Bahamas.

Ted Fleurimond has been named General Manager of the Hyatt Place National Harbor Hotel, expected to open later this year. For the past six years, he had served as General Manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites National Harbor.

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort has appointed Tim Herman General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager for the Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah.

David Ryan is now in Napa as Managing Director of the Meritage Resort and Spa and Vista Collina Resort. He was most recently overseeing the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Pennsylvania.

Boris Guerov has moved to the Conrad New York Midtown as General Manager. He was most recently in the same position at the Millennium Hilton New York Downtown.

Max Scherff has been appointed General Manager at The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. He is the former Hotel Director and Director of Food and Beverage of Canyon Ranch in Lenox.

Paul Tormey is heading over the bridge to the Claremont Club as General Manager and will continue is duties with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts as Regional Vice President Northern California. He has been with Fairmont for over 18 years, most recently as General Manager of the Fairmont San Francisco.

Markus Treppenhauer takes over from Paul Tormey as General Manager of the San Francisco Fairmont. Treppenhauer was most recently the General Manager of the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. He is the former General Manager of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and Hotel Manager of the Fairmont Banff Springs.

Nenand Praporski has been promoted to General Manager of the Fairmont Austin. He joined the hotel in 2016 as Hotel Manager. Praporski is the former Executive Director Hotel Operations of the Wynn Palace and Executive Director of Rooms at the Grand Del Mar.

Kelly Cosgrove is in Puerto Rico as General Manager of the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel. She is the former General Manager of the Fairmont Orchid, the Fairmont San Jose and the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa.

Fred Sawyers has been named Managing Director overseeing the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Hilton Bonnet Creek. He was most recently Complex General Manager of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. Sawyers is the former General Manager of the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

Nancy Kelly has joined the Shangri-La Toronto as General Manager. For the past ten years, she had served as Chief Operating Officer of Metropolitan Hotels. Kelly is the former General Manager of the Hazelton.

John Remmers has joined the Houston Hotel Derek as General Manager. He was most recently overseeing both the Hotel Vitale and the Hotel Marker in San Francisco.

Anthony Duggan has joined Miraval in Austin as General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager of the L’Auberge de Sedona and had previously overseen the Westin Washington, D.C. City Center.

Matthew Mackenzie has joined the Westin Nova Scotian as General Manager. He was most recently with the Algonquin Resort in New Brunswick as Resort General Manager.

The Knob Hill Inn in Ketchum has named Alexandria Barnhardt General Manager. Prior to this, Barnhardt was the snow sports and mountain operations administrative manager for the Sun Valley Company.

Davidson Hotels & Resorts appointed Jeff Toscano Executive Vice President of Pivot Hotels & Resorts. Toscano is the former Senior Vice President of Operations Eastern Region at Hyatt Hotels.

Edwin Conway has moved out of his position as General Manager of the Sedona Rouge to oversee the Bondurant High Performance Driving School in Chandler. Conway is the former General Manager of the Radisson Monarch Hotel and the Greenhorn Creek Resort.

Carl Dees will assume additional duties as General Manager of the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace, while continuing his role as Vice President of Operations at Marcus Hotels & Resorts, a role he has held since 2018. Dees is the former Vice President of Operations for Crescent Hotels & Resorts.

Clifford Atkinson has launched the WE Advisory Group in Las Vegas as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was most recently in a similar role at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. Atkinson is the former Senior Vice President Hotel Strategy at MGM Resorts International. He had previously served as General Manager of the Mandarin Oriental Miami, the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, and the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco.

Justin Kellerman has moved over to The Beekman as General Manager. He is the former General Manager of Park South in New York.

Desmond Acheson has been named General Manager of Muir, slated to open in Halifax in 2021. He is the former Managing Director at Acheson Hospitality and General Manager of the Wyndham Hotel Ramada Manama City Centre.

Mark Vanderwielen has been named General Manager of the Congress Hall Hotel in Cape May, New Jersey. He was most recently with the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa as Vice President- Hotel and Property Operations.

The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa has named Doug Ridge General Manager. Ridge had previously served as General Manager of the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Maryland.

Robert Johns has been named Vice President of Hospitality at McGuire Moorman Hospitality. He was most recently with Mercury Design Studio as Co-Owner. Johns is the former Vice President of Culture and Brand at Bunkhouse.

Bernhard Duerrmeier is now in Palm Beach as General Manager of the White Elephant Resort. For the past 15 years, he had been with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, most recently as Hotel Manager of the Four Seasons Montreal. Duerrmeier is the former Director of Food and Beverage of the Four Seasons Seattle and Assistant Director of Food and Beverage of the Four Seasons New York.

Michael Maruca replaces John Drugan as General Manager of the Historic Cavalier Hotel & Beach Club in Virginia Beach. He is the former General Manager of the Hilton Phoenix/Mesa and Hotel Manager of the Brown Palace in Denver.

Jeroen Werdmolder has joined the Mandarin Oriental New York as Hotel Manager. He was most recently the Resort Director of the Inn at Perry Cabin Resort and Golf. Werdmolder is the former Hotel Manager of the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.

Matthew Gabos has been promoted to Director of Operations at Calistoga Ranch. He was most recently serving the resort as Director of Food and Beverage and is the former Assistant Director of Food and Beverage of the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.

Olivier Azzopardi has joined the St. Regis Washington, D.C. as Director of Operations. He was most recently in the same role at the Conrad Chicago.

Nick Fielding has joined Groot Hospitality as Director of Operations. He was most recently with Timbers Resorts as Corporate Director of Food and Beverage.

Patrick Horstmann has joined Tishman Speyer as Senior Director / Regional Property Manager. He was most recently the Area Managing Director of The James New York Nomad and Soho for Denihan Hospitality Group.

Nate Troup has joined Twilio as Vice President, Global Controller. He was most recently with Red Lion Hotels as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer.

Olivier Malaussena has been promoted at Highgate to Corporate Financial Controller. He was most recently serving the company as Regional Director of Finance.

Scott Root has moved over as Executive Vice President of Finance to the Ian Schrager Company. Root was most recently the Chief Financial Officer of NeueHouse.

Brian Javellana has been named Vice President Finance of Terranea Resort. For the past year, he had been with Proper in the same position. Javellana had previously spent 10 years with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, most recently at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel as Director of Finance.

Charlestowne Hotels appointed Anthony Langan Corporate Director of Food and Beverage. He was most recently in the same position with Vision Hospitality Group.

Emmanuel Cornet has been named Vice President Food and Beverage for the Mandalay Bay and Luxor in Las Vegas. He had previously overseen food and beverage at Mandalay Bay before moving into his most recent role as Vice President Food and Beverage of the Bellagio.

Remington Hotels has appointed Don Falgoust Vice President of Food and Beverage Strategy Execution. For the last 12 years, Falgoust served as Vice President of Food and Beverage at FelCor and then at RLJ Lodging Trust after the company acquired FelCor two years ago.

Martin Rinck has been named Executive Vice President – Chief Brand Officer at Hilton. He was most recently serving the company as Executive Vice President – Global Head Luxury & Lifestyle Group.

Susie Yang has been named Vice President Asset Management at DiamondRock Hospitality. She was most recently with Coral Tree Hospitality as Area General Manager.

Lisseth Zouhbi has joined Oakwood as Vice President Human Resources. She was most recently the Senior Corporate Director, Human Resources Development at the Rosewood Hotel Group.

Austin Watkins has been appointed Managing Director Marketing and Hospitality Sales at Timbers Resorts in Florida. Watkins joined Timbers Resorts in 2018 as the Global Director of Sales and Marketing – Hospitality. Prior to joining Timbers, Watkins spent 15 years with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, most recently as Regional Director of Hotel Marketing for properties throughout Hawaii.

Jared Mintz has joined the Rosewood Hotel Group Director of Global Sales. He was most recently with the Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito as Director of Group Sales.

Kevin Rosa is Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Florida. Rosa was most recently the Vice President of Sales and Operations at Incentive Travel Solutions and is the former Director of Sales and Marketing of the Château Élan Winery & Resort.

The Ambassador Chicago has named Jenna Haymond Director of Sales and Marketing. Haymond was previously with the Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago-Downtown most recently as Area Director of Sales.

Ray DeJohn has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing of The Holdsworth Center Campus on Lake Austin. He was most recently the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Hotel Granduca Austin.

Nicky See has been named Director of Marketing of The Joseph Nashville. She was previously with the Grand Del Mar as Marketing Communications Manager before moving into her most recent position as Marketing Director of the Outlets at San Clemente.

Emily Humphrey has joined Sage Hospitality Group as Regional Director of Revenue Management. She was most recently with Provenance Hotels as Corporate Director of Revenue Management.

Kaleo Adams has joined the Maybourne Beverly Hills as Executive Chef. He was most recently the Group Executive Chef at Proper Hotels and Executive Chef of the Proper Santa Monica. Adams is the former Executive Chef of the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows, the Waikiki EDITION, and the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.

Patrice Martineau has joined the Charlotte Inn as Executive Chef. He was most recently in the same position at the Harbor View Hotel on Martha’s Vineyard. Martineau is the former Executive Chef of the former Montage Beverly Hills and the Viceroy Palm Springs.

Jonathan Haffmans has joined The Ocean House Restaurant as Executive Chef. He was most recently the Chef/Proprietor of Vers Restaurant and Pâtisserie in Chatham.

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, operated by Pivot Hotels & Resorts, has appointed Michael Cerrie Executive Chef. He spent the last 9 years with White Lodging as Executive Chef.

EUROPE

Legendary hotelier George Goring OBE FIH has died aged 81. He took over the Goring in the late 1960s. He was awarded an OBE for services to hotel keeping in 1991 and voted Hotelier of the Year in 1990. His family were of East German origin with his grandpa Otto deserting the coal trade in Dresden to become a chef in England. He and his twin brother Richard, known as Goring 1 and Goring 2 were so identical nobody could tell them apart.

Another British Hospitality Legend, James Sherwood also died this month. He became a hotel tycoon by way of Sea Containers and the Venice-Simplon Orient Express. Orient-Express hotels grew to a sizable international portfolio, renamed Belmond shortly after he retired.

Licinio Garavaglia has joined the Aman Venice as General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager of the Palais de Chine Hotel in Taipei City. Garavaglia is the former General Manager of the Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort and the Château Monfort.

Christophe Thomas is now in Paris at the Raffles Royal Monceau as General Manager. He was most recently at the SLS Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills as General Manager before opening the EDITION West Hollywood. He is the former General Manager of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, and the W New York Union Square.

Christian Zandonella has been named pre-opening General Manager of the W Rome. He was most recently the General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Vienna after serving for two years as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain.

Elli Jafari has been promoted at the Standard London to General Manager. Jafari joined the hotel in 2018 as Hotel Manager.

Ludovic Poirier has joined the Chateau de Grand-Luce as Director. He is the former Director of Food and Beverage and Director of Outlets at the Hotel Alessandra.

Ian Richardson has been appointed General Manager of 11 Cadogan Gardens in London’s Chelsea. He was most recently the General Manager of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower.

Thomas Wilken is now the General Manager of Maxx by Steigenberger Sanssouci Potsdam. He is the former Executive Assistant Manager of the Hotel Balthus Kempinski Moscow.

Il Tornabuoni has named Fernando Pane General Manager. He was most recently at Il Pellicano as Resort Manager.

Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts has named Peter Mikkelsen Area General Manager Berlin and General Manager of the Berlin Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt. He is the former General Manager of the Steigenberger Hotel Köln and the Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel Warsaw.

Lee Kelly has joined the Berkeley Hotel as Hotel Manager. He was most recently with the Monkey Island Estate in Berkshire as General Manager.

Cedric Horgnies is taking over from Lee Kelly as General Manager of the Monkey Island Estate. For the past three years Horgnies was the General Manager of Threadneedles.

Peter Pusnik has appointed Cluster General Manager for Dorint Hotels & Resorts in Germany. He is the former General Manager for Hommage Luxury Hotels Collection in Baden-Baden and the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg.

Kathrin Schissler has been appointed General Manager of the IntercityHotel Hauptbahnhof Berlin. Schissler is the former General Manager of the IntercityHotel Ulm and the IntercityHotel Rostock.

After 22 years with Four Seasons, Rudolf (“Ruud”) Van Dijk went home to Amsterdam to take over as General Manager of the InterContinental Amstel. His time with Four Seasons took him to New York, Shanghai, Bangkok, Tokyo, Singapore, Hangzou, Sydney and Moscow.

Eike Clausen has moved as General Manager to the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz in Malta. He was most recently in the same position at the Kempinski Hotel Aqaba.

Il Salviatino has named Juan Miquel General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager of Castello Banfi – Il Borgo. Miquel is the former General Manager of Villa Mangiacane.

Vincent Bergmann has been appointed General Manager of the Château de Fonscolombe. He was most recently with the Hilton N’Djamena as General Manager.

Martin Dell is now the General Manager of the Four Seasons Prague. He was most recently the Resort Manager of the Four Seasons Maui and the former Hotel Manager of the Four Seasons Singapore.

Rolf Broennimann has been named General Manager of the Savoy Hotel Baur en Ville in Zürich. He was most recently the Managing Director of the Budersand Hotel Golf & Spa, Sylt.

Carsten Schieck is the new General Manager of the Leipzig Pentahotel. He is the former Chief Operating Officer of the Precise Hotel Collection and General Manager of the Hideaway Resort & Spa Maldives.

The Pan Pacific London has appointed Cherish Finden Executive Pastry Chef. She is the former Executive Pastry Chef of the Langham London.

Olivier Dewatre has joined Chateau de Crans in Switzerland as Wine Ambassador. He is the former Regional Director of Sales Southern Europe for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

ASIA AND THE PACIFIC

Macau gaming king Stanley Ho has died at age 98. The entrepreneur headed one of the world’s most lucrative gaming businesses through his flagship firm, SJM Holdings, valued at about US$6 billion.

Anuraag Bhatnagar has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts. He was most recently with Marriott International as Multi Property Vice President Mumbai & Goa.

Marcel Thoma has joined the Mandarin Oriental as Corporate General Manager. He was most recently the Dual General Manager for The Upper House and Pacific Place Apartments.

Anne Arrowsmith has been named Group General Manager at 137 Pillars Hotels & Resorts. She was most recently the General Manager of 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai. Arrowsmith is the former Director of Marketing of the Regent Singapore and Director of Marketing of the Four Seasons Bangkok.

James Zhao has been named Complex General Manager for the MGallery and Swissotel Changbaishan. He was most recently the General Manager of the Pullman Kaifeng Jianye.

Gaylord Lamy has moved as General Manager to the Langham Jakarta. He was most recently in the same role at the Langham Sydney. Lamy is the former General Manager and Director of Food and Beverage of the Langham Chicago.

Iain McCormack is the new General Manager of the Vakkaru Maldives. McCormack was most recently overseeing the Fairmont Sirru Fen Fushi.

John Webb has been named General Manager of the Chengdu Fairmont. He was most recently Area General Manager Southern China, Sofitel Hotels and General Manager of the Sofitel Forebase Chongqing.

Christian Baudat has joined Oakwood Suites as Director of Operations, Japan and South Korea and as General Manager of the Oakwood Suites, Yokohama. He was most recently the Area Vice President for Abu Dhabi with Rotana Hotel Management.

The Rosewood Hotel Group has appointed Joanna Gunn Chief Brand Officer. Previously, Gunn was Chief Brand Officer for Lane Crawford.

Toby Smith has been promoted to Deputy Chairman to take over from Brian Williams at Swire Hotels in Hong Kong. Smith was most recently serving as Managing Director. Williams remains at the company as Senior Advisor based in the UK.

Dean Winter has taken over for Toby Smith as Managing Director at Swire Hotels. Winter was most recently serving as Group Operations Director for Swire.

Carl Duggan has been selected as General Manager of the Grand Hyatt Shenyang. He was previously the General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Qingdao.

Six Senses Con Dao has named Eric Hallin General Manager. He is the former General Manager of the Six Senses Samui.

Moky Lam has joined the Peninsula Shanghai as Hotel Manager. He was most recently the Vice President of Food and Beverage of the MGM Macau.

Loic Thomas has been named Director of Food and Beverage at the Peninsula Hong Kong. He was most recently in the same position at the Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou. Thomas is the former Director of Food and Beverage of the Four Seasons Denver and Assistant Director of Food and Beverage at the Four Seasons Hong Kong.

Hannah Loughlin has joined the Six Senses Con Dao as Director of Sales and Marketing. She was most recently the Director of Sales and Marketing and Business Development North America for Trails of Indochina.

Vakkaru Maldives has appointed Janice Tan Director of Sales and Marketing. She was most recently the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Raffles Maldives Meradhoo. Tan is the former Regional Director of Sales and Marketing – Maldives, for COMO Hotels and Resorts.

Mandy Tran Thi My Dung has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing of The Anam in Cam Ranh. She has previously overseen sales and marketing at the Hyatt Regency Nha Trang and the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel and Spa.

Ingo Stoneberg has been promoted to Executive Chef at Alma in Cam Ranh, Vietnam. He was most recently serving as Executive Sous Chef for the resort and had previously served as Executive Sous Chef at Emirates Flight Catering in Dubai.

MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA

Andrew McLachlan joins as Managing Director, Development for Sub-Saharan Africa region, for Hilton International, based in Cape Town. He is the former Senior Vice President Development at the Radisson Hotel Group and the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

Jean-Sébastien Kling has been named Cluster General Manager overseeing both the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis and Heliopolis Towers Hotel. He was most recently the General Manager of the Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah.

Pascal Leprou has been named General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Taghazout Bay Resort in Morocco. He was most recently the opening General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Algiers.

Jean François Debon has joined La Réunion Saint Gilles as General Manager. He was most recently with HG Holdings as General Manager Hospitality Division. Debon is the former General Manager of the Poulo Condor Resort & Spa.

Desmond O’Connor has been named General Manager of The Oyster Box in South Africa. He was most recently at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence Cape Town as General Manager and had previously overseen the Radisson Blu Hotel Port Elizabeth as General Manager.

Sébastien Mariette has been named General Manager of the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo. He is the former Managing Director of the Emerald Palace Kempinski and the Kempinski Hotel and Residences Palm Jumeirah, Dubai and Cluster General Manager for the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea and the Kempinski Hotel Aqaba.

Bastien Blanc has been named Managing Director of the InterContinental Riyadh. He was most recently serving as Vice President Operations MENA for the group.

Wael Aboelseoud is now the General Manager of the Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir in Cairo. He was most recently the General Manager of the Steigenberger Cecil Hotel.

Islam Sabry takes over from Wael Aboelseoud as General Manager of the Steigenberger Cecil Hotel. Sabry was most recently the Director of the Jaz Dahabeya Hotel in Dahab.

David Todd has been named Head of Operations MEA of the InterContinental Hotels Group. He was most recently the Head of Hotel Lifecycle & Growth and New Hotels, IMEA.

Cédric Rolland has been named Executive Chef of the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa. He is the former Executive Chef of the Pushang Hotel and Spa, the W Xiamen, and the W Suzhou.
