The Chinese government has revealed plans for tourism growth in Tibet; during the 12th Five-Year Plan, the authorities have set a target of receiving 15 million visitors each year.
This is expected to generate RMB18 billion (US$2.8 billion) and create 300,000 jobs in tourism and related industries by 2015.
With development focused on the high-end market, tourism will represent 50% of the service sector in the autonomous region by this date.
