
The Hurun Research Institute released the Hurun Rich List 2011, the thirteenth annual ranking of the richest individuals in China since Hurun Report founded the China Rich List in 1999.
Today's release focuses on the sources of wealth by industry and geography and is a sequel to that of 7 September, in which the Hurun Top 50 was released. Wealth calculations are a snapshot of 15 August 2011.
The Hurun Rich List 2011 is sponsored for the third year running by Hainan Clearwater Bay, a leading luxury property development based in Hainan Island.
Rupert Hoogewerf, Chairman and Chief Researcher said, "Property remains the biggest source of wealth for the Hurun 1,000 but the fastest growing is commodities, healthcare, IT and retail."
Political affiliation
52 individuals of the Hurun 1000 hold official political offices, made up of primarily of 75 delegates to the National People's Congress, and 72 delegates to the CPPCC.
The richer they are, the more political positions they have with 30% of the Hurun Top 50 holding official political offices, and five of the Hurun Top 10.
