According to figures from the Cross-Straits Tourism Exchange Association (CTEA), 2010 saw a record number of Taiwan tourists visiting mainland China.
The figure recorded was at 5.14 million people, an increase of 14.6% from 2009, marking the first time the number of Taiwanese cross-strait tourists has exceeded five million in a single year.
This has translated to tourism revenues of approximately US$5.74 billion from Taiwanese visitors for 2010.
The record number has been attributed to a greater number of flight services and major events such as the World Expo in Shanghai and the Asian Games in Guangzhou.
