Visitor arrivals to Taiwan are set to rise with the implementation of an easier process for visa application.
Since 1 September 2010, travellers from Hong Kong and Macau have been able to apply for a visa to Taiwan online for free.
Once their online applications have been approved, they can print the approval statements and use them to enter Taiwan. Arrivals from Macau and Hong Kong rose 5.89% to 450,927 for the first seven months of 2010.
The new visa application process may see the rise of weekend travel to Taiwan during long weekends.
