Aussie domestic travellers' Top 20 destinations in 2010 were released by Wotif, based on bookings made through the accommodation website during 2010.
Sydney and Melbourne maintained their respective first and second spots in 2010, while the Gold Coast snuck up to third spot from fourth, bumping Brisbane out of the top three.
Queensland was well represented in the national Top 20 with a total of eight destinations included in the list, up from six in 2009.
New South Wales's representation in the Top 20 dropped from seven destinations to five.
Port Douglas and Airlie Beach were newcomers to this year's list, up from 27th and 24th respectively, bumping out New South Wales's Albury and Hunter Valley from the Top 20, now 22nd and 26th respectively.
General Manager Wotif Brands Megan Magill said Wotif.com's Top 20 destinations list takes into account more than 250,000 bookings made on Wotif.com each month by both business and leisure travellers.
"We've monitored these top destinations for a number of years now and each year, we tend to see the larger capital cities leading the top destinations list," Megan said.
"It's great to see the regional areas creep up there in the 2010 list, such as the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the inclusion this year of Port Douglas and Airlie Beach."
