Wine & dine in a fishmarket.
Sunday, 3rd June 2007
Source : Ala Moana Center
The combination fish market and restaurant is inspired by Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market - the largest fish market in the world.

The Tsukiji name is used with the Tokyo market's permission.

Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant is a brand new dining concept, that has opened its first location at Ala Moana Center's Ho‘okipa Terrace.

The Ala Moana Center location is a 14,000 square-foot space that will feature a fish market where shoppers can buy fresh fish from local waters as well as more exotic catch from around the globe. Prices will be competitive with other fish markets around the island, and twice a day, shoppers will be able to watch as the fish is filleted for patrons to buy.

There will also be a sushi bar, a yakitori bar and a Japanese buffet restaurant serving a variety of dishes cooked fresh while diners watch. Menu items will include hot and cold noodle dishes, several kinds of tempuras and curries, seafood items, a salad bar, many kinds of Japanese and local-style desserts, and a variety of hot and cold sakes.

"Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant is like nothing Honolulu has seen before," said Ken Mitsusune, owner of the new Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant. "The Ho‘okipa Terrace space is perfect for our concept combining a fish market and several dining options in one restaurant. We are excited to be opening there and to bringing this unique dining concept to locals and visitors alike."

With interior design by top Tokyo firm Hashimoto Yokio Design Studio, the restaurant offers a modern take on the renowned original Tsukiji Fish Market. On the mauka side, the restaurant will be very open with wall-sized windows capturing the tropical breezes. Three private party rooms will be available for special events. Including the sushi bar, yakitori bar, restaurant and party rooms, the restaurant will seat 350.

Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, serving lunch and dinner. After 9 p.m., only the sushi bar and yakitori bar will be open to diners.

Other restaurants that will be opening at the new Ho‘okipa Terrace include Islands Fine Burgers and Drinks, Romano's Macaroni Grill, and Kyoto Ohsho. When completed this fall, Ho‘okipa Terrace will include the area on the fourth level from Ruby Tuesday to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., including Mai Tai Bar. It will feature new common areas, wider walkways, new restroom areas and new family restrooms.
