Phased openings in 2030 and 2033 mark the Group's debut in Japan's premier alpine destination.
Accor has signed a management agreement with AQUA RESORT Co., Ltd. for two new Novotel hotels in Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Scheduled to open in 2030 and 2033 respectively, the dual-signing marks the Group's debut in one of Japan's most internationally renowned alpine destinations.
Novotel, one of the world's leading midscale brands, champions Longevity Everyday across more than 600 hotels in over 70 countries. Designed for family-focused professionals, business travellers and modern families, the brand helps guests live longer, fuller and happier lives through small daily habits – eating well, sleeping deeply, moving regularly and staying socially connected.
Hakuba's strong international profile, world-class winter sports and growing appeal as a four-season destination make it a natural fit for Novotel. The development reflects Accor's long-term commitment to expanding in high-potential resort destinations while delivering experiences that combine commercial strength with meaningful guest relevance.
The first hotel, Novotel Hakuba, will feature 82 guestrooms and a restaurant, along with a fitness centre to support active lifestyles. Designed with Hakuba's winter market in mind, the hotel will also include a dedicated ski equipment drying room. The second hotel, opening in 2033, will offer 120 guestrooms, a restaurant and bar, a fitness centre, traditional hot springs onsen facility catering to both Japanese and international travellers, as well as a dedicated ski equipment drying room.
Across both properties, Novotel's Longevity Everyday promise will shape the guest experience. Nourishing culinary options will support energy and recovery after time on the slopes; calming room environments and next-generation bedding will promote restorative sleep; accessible fitness and movement facilities will encourage daily activity; and welcoming social spaces will foster meaningful connection among families, friends and travellers from around the world.
Together, the two hotels will establish a strong and recognisable Novotel presence in Hakuba, leveraging their strategic location near Hakuba Station and close proximity to one another to meet growing demand in the region.
“The signing of two Novotel hotels in Hakuba represents an important milestone for Accor as we continue to expand our presence in Japan's high-potential resort destinations,” said Garth Simmons, Chief Executive Officer for Accor's Premium, Midscale & Economy Division in Asia. “Hakuba's international profile and strong seasonal demand make it a compelling market for Novotel. Together with AQUA RESORT Co., Ltd., we look forward to delivering contemporary hospitality experiences that cater to both domestic and global travellers.”
Accor currently operates 46 hotels in Japan, across 10 brands including Fairmont, MGallery, Pullman, Swissôtel, Grand Mercure, Mercure, Novotel, ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget, with additional hotels in the pipeline.
