88 practical ways to prepare for the new wave of Chinese visitors - Coming soon.

This insight-packed new handbook is written specifically for tourism stakeholders, destination authorities, government officials and businesses in related sectors who need to understand the changing desires, expectations and behavioural influences of the new wave of Chinese visitors.

It provides practical advice on preparing for the new wave of Chinese tourists.

Are You Prepared for the new Era of Chinese Outbound Travel?

Throughout the 2010s, China was the world’s most influential tourism source market. Chinese airlines flew to all corners of the planet. Global carriers launched flights from cities across this vast nation.

By the end of 2019, Chinese tourists had transformed the way the global travel industry operates, finances and markets itself.

The pandemic abruptly halted travel and tourism activity from China in January 2020. This triggered a three-year disruption to travel and tourism worldwide.

Now, as global tourism recovers, governments, tourism authorities and travel industry businesses on every continent are rethinking how to inspire and engage Chinese tourists. However, the needs, expectations and behavioural influences of the new wave of Chinese visitors have changed. Innovative thinking is needed across the travel industry.

The China Outbound Tourism Handbook 2023 helps readers to place in context the rapid expansion of Chinese domestic and outbound travel over the last decade. It explores the dramatic changes within China over the past three years – and guides readers to view Chinese tourism through a dynamic new lens for an unfolding era of travel.

The Handbook dives into the emerging travel and consumer trends in China during the pandemic. It discusses the diverse impacts of China’s Dynamic Covid-Zero policy on travellers and travel businesses. The authors provide practical advice and tips for travel industry players to enhance travel experiences for Chinese tourists.

88 Essential Topics

The China Outbound Tourism Handbook 2023 is organised in an innovative way. The Handbook alphabetically lists 88 key topics which will influence the new wave of Chinese outbound tourism.

Each of the 88 segments features three bullet point ‘takeaways’ offering directly applicable actions to help travel businesses tailor their products and services to meet the new needs and aspirations of Chinese travellers.

Quotes

Wolfgang Georg Arlt says: “Many millions of Chinese are eagerly waiting for the moment when they can cross the border again, for business, education, health, family reunions and leisure. However, the Chinese society including the behaviour and demands of travellers has changed dramatically in the past three years. Many new opportunities arise for providers offering customised services for specific market segments, new challenges appear for those who aim to restart previously successful engagements with the Chinese outbound tourism market.”

Gary Bowerman says: “The global recovery of travel and tourism from the pandemic continues to be impacted by the absence of the world’s largest outbound market, China. The return of Chinese leisure and business travellers, plus Chinese airlines, tour operators and hotel investors, is coveted by destinations on every continent. Many things have changed during Covid-19, and the return of Chinese travellers to airports around the world will herald a new period of transition. Being ‘China-ready’ before the pandemic is not a realistic platform for welcoming back Chinese tourists. Tourism stakeholders must upgrade their market knowledge, their products and their services for the next wave of Chinese tourists.”
