Changi Airport achieves record-breaking 62.2 million passengers in 2017

According to Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Changi Airport recorded a total of 62.2 million passengers in 2017, indicating a 6 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth over 2016. Aircraft movements increased by 3.5 per cent to 373,200 landings and take-offs, and air cargo volumes increased by an estimated 8 per cent to 2.13 million tonnes. Growth was observed for passenger traffic across all regions, with India and China recording the most significant YoY increase with 16 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. Of the total 62.2 million passengers, 70 per cent of passengers were from the South-East Asia and North-East Asia region. Looking forward, Changi Airport is already carrying out expansion plans to cope with the anticipated increase in demand for air travel in the Asia-Pacific region. Terminal 1 is currently upgrading alongside the development of Jewel Changi Airport, expected to open in 2019, increasing the Airport’s capacity to 85 million passengers a year. Terminal 5, set to be completed in 2030, will further increase capacity by another 70 million passengers annually.

Hyatt Centric debuts in Asia Pacific with Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo

US-based Hyatt Hotels Corporation (“Hyatt”), in partnership with Japan-based ORIX Real Estate Corporation (“ORIX”), has debuted its full-service lifestyle brand, Hyatt Centric, in the Asia Pacific region with the opening of Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo. Occupying the third to top floors in the 12-storey Ginza Asahi Building on the high-end Namiki-dori Street, the hotel joins Hyatt Centric’s portfolio of 20 hotels worldwide. Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo features 164 guestrooms and suites, ranging from 35 to 127 square metres, an all-day dining restaurant & bar Namiki667, a gym, and 86 square metres of meeting space. The Namiki Suite located on the top floor has a generous terrace overlooking Namiki-dori Street and is equipped with a full-size teppanyaki grill. The 127-square metre suite can not only be booked as a guestroom but also as a meeting room.

Marriott opens first Sheraton Grand Resort in Vietnam

Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, part of Marriott International, Inc. has announced the opening of the flagship Sheraton Grand Danang Resort in Danang City. Located on the tranquil beach of Non Nuoc Beach, Sheraton Grand Danang Resort offers 258 guestrooms, including suites, distributed across two 6-storey hotel blocks. Other facilities include seven food and beverage outlets, more than 35,500 square feet of meeting space and Shine Spa, offering a fusion of modern hydrotherapy and ancient Asian-inspired treatments. Located a convenient 20 minutes car ride from the airport, the resort allows for convenient access to tourist hotspots such as UNESCO Heritage landmarks such as Hoi An Old Town and Hue Ancient Capital.

Centara signs 20-year lease for ownership of Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel

Thailand’s Centara Hotels & Resorts has signed a 20-year lease agreement for the Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Wattana. The 204-room hotel, owned by Dhanarak Asset Development Company Ltd. had been managed by Centara since 2011. Located in Bangkok’s Government Complex, approximately ten kilometres south of Don Mueang International Airport, the hotel boasts 24 meeting rooms as well as integrated hotel and conference facilities that cater to businesspeople, delegates and officials. Centra by Centara is one of Centara Hotels & Resorts’ six hotel brands, along with Centara, Centara Grand, Centara Residences & Suites, Centara Boutique Collection and COSI. The group aims to double its size over the next five years with additional hotels and resorts both in Thailand as well as new international markets.
