Tourism grows further – most foreign guests from Italy, Austria and Germany.

In the matter of tourism frequency the small Slovenia is in no way inferior to the new EU member country Croatia. Quite the contrary: a good infrastructure and an equilibrated range make tourism one of the most important economic sectors, although admittedly growing slowly.

With the Livade Resort a lighthouse project arises in Izola at the Adriatic Coast. As reported by TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of b2b hotel data.

In the picturesque harbor city Izola a resort (200 rooms) directly located at the sea arises, the property compromises a Health Resort (125 rooms), a business center with about 200 apartments and a water park. The first part of opening is expected for early 2014.

Slovenia's tourism sector grows steadily

Slovenia's tourism sector is steadily evolving through increasing awareness of its multifaceted range. Sustainability is the main focus for the strategy 2012 until 2016. The competitiveness should be increased, the environment should become more business-friendly and the marketing should become more innovative. The biggest challenge is to implement this strategy with half of the budget, caused by debt-cutting measures by the Slovenian government.

The tourism strategy includes the steady expansion of the infrastructure, the congress and health tourism as well as the promotion of sustainability. The alpine skiing and hiking tourism, the numerous range of wellness, spa and health bathes, events and conferences as well as the attractive Adriatic coast loom large.

In 2012 Slovenia counted 3.3 million visitors and 9.5 million overnight stays in total, an increase of two or respectively one percent compared to the previous year and a record for Slovenia's tourism since its independence. The number of foreign tourists was 2.2 million in 2012, which is an increase of six percent compared to the previous year. The number of overnight stays from foreign tourists also increased by six percent to 5.8 million.

Related to the domestic tourists it is reverse: the number of arrivals has a decrease of three percent and the overnight stays have decreased by five percent. The average number of overnight stays from domestic tourists amounts 3.3, the number of foreign tourists amounts 2.7. Foreign tourists have a share of 60 percent regarding the overnight stays. The majority of visitors came from Italy (17%) followed by Austria and Germany (both twelve percent). In respect of the kind of accommodation, more than 60 percent of all overnight stays were in hotels, followed by camping sites with 13,6 percent as well as apartments and holiday lodges with 6,5 percent.

To increase Slovenia's image on international markets, the future focus is set on the efficient marketing of touristic offers. The goal is to increase the tourism revenue from two to three billion Euros. In future Slovenia plans to offer better reachability and to be more attractive for tourism throughout the whole year.

The motto will further be "I feel Slovenia". To implement these plans, further subsidies are necessary. But in 2012 the tourism budget was reduced from 6,2 million to 3,46 million Euros due to debt-cutting measures.
