Tophotels are aiming higher: new hotel skyscrapers are under construction worldwide; J Hotel in Shanghai should become largest hotel tower worldwide.

At the end of 2014 the J Hotel in Shanghai will open its doors – with 632 meters and 128 floors it will be the largest hotel in the world.

So far the Royal Clock Tower hotel in Mecca in Saudi Arabia (601 meters) is entitled being the highest hotel so far. TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, has summarized the most ambitious hotel construction projects.

The J Hotel Tower in Shanghai will not be just a hotel – only 26 floors (84th till the 110th level) are provided for it. So far it is not sure if they can obtain the record for the "world's highest hotel". For comparison: the Armani Hotel in the world's highest Tower, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (828 meters) occupies the 1st till the 8th floor as well as the 28th till the 39th floor with 160 rooms – and is thereof on the first place of the highest buildings with a hotel.

On second place is the Park Hyatt (174 rooms) which occupies the 79th till the 93rd floor in the Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters). The Ritz Carlton at the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong ranked on the third place at the list of the highest buildings which include a hotel. 

The J Hotel offers 258 rooms and will be operated by Jon Jiang Hotels. The lobby is at the 101th floor and offers an impressive panorama view over the Pudong district. 



Another superlative hotel tower is planned to open in 2016 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The Abu Dhabi Plaza (382 meters) should comprise two hotels on an area of 12,000 square meters. Investor of the 1.5 billion US-Dollar major project is among others the government of Abu Dhabi. In 2017 the World Expo will take place in Astana.

Also in Baku, Azerbaijan's capital, a record tower building will be built. On the Khazar islands at the Caspian Sea the "Business Center" skyscraper should become the world's highest skyscraper with 1,050 meter – including two hotels. The construction work for the 100 billion US-Dollar projects of the Avesta Group has started. The completion is planned for 2022. On YouTube you can watch the promo of the vision.

Saudi Prince and hotel investor Al-Walid continues to pursue his plans to arise the "Kingdom Tower" in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia - with almost a high of 1,000 meters, it will be the highest tower in the world by far. A Four Seasons Hotel will be included. Still it is unclear when the construction of the approximately 1.2 billion US-Dollar expensive project will start. For more information click on the video.
