At its annual conference during the ITB Berlin the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has suggested to introduce an economic recovery plan for the travel industry.

"This crisis is outstanding, because it is global and until now no one can explain what is yet to come", interim General Secretary of UNWTO Raleb Rifai gave cause for serious concern.

He appealed to the leading governments to include the industry in the already heavily supported motor and bank sector.

In Berlin the UNWTO introduced its Road Map for Recovery. The study does comprise recommendations for business player as well as politcians how to deal the downturn in order to disburden the travel industry.

"When you combine aid packages for economy, please do not forget the tourism industry", Assistant Secretary General of UNWTO Geoffry Lipman claimed. This could also lead to infrastructure projects to improve traffic routes.

Investing in railways and motorways would create a "win-win-situation", Lipman explained. Besides they were not protectionist. The study is exiting with the much discussed plan to establish a "green" tourism.

"This is going to be the most daring change in the next years", Lipman assumed. He proposed to work out a concept illustrating the transformational process and how it could be financed.
