Impact on Chef's Skills with Habits
By Corrado Pani
Tuesday, 16th May 2023

Making an impact, seeing my people change and grow has always given me a lot of satisfaction and I continue to put it in my top 3 KPI`s when I introduce myself to a new company along with finance results and quality of products.

Leadership commitment is an essential factor in the development of employees' skills. and your teams. It requires a genuine desire to make an impact and a caring attitude towards the team.

As a trainer, I focus on creating individuals with distinct personalities, strengthening their critical thinking skills and encouraging them to consider different perspectives. I motivate them to try new things, to study daily, to adopt appropriate research methods to solve problems and to manage operations in a professional manner.

I have set much of my management style since my days at the Ritz Carlton on the 7 Habits style, I have as it were espoused a method that has worked quite well with me also because I have associated it not only with my work but also with my daily and private life. I almost felt like I had found a guide, a line to follow that seemed consistent and inspired me with a sense of integrity.

It is crucial to understand the importance of employees' self-esteem and respect. I like to inspire my people with my personal stories and by giving them examples, creating curiosity to learn, grow and dream. My personal hobbies have taught me to see things outside of work, in a different way and from different perspectives. The world of cooking can be stressful and having a parallel world has always helped me maintain a healthy work-life balance. Since the age of 15, I have been passionate about interior design, creating furniture with natural elements and gardening with my brothers.

Stereotypes often do not reflect the reality of the profession. Exploring other fields and learning new things can help us discover hidden talents and passions. Regardless of one's background or education, everyone can be passionate about cooking and baking, just as others can be sculptors and home stagers with a chef's profession or background. By embracing these different perspectives and experiences, we can create a more inclusive, innovative and arguably more sustainable culinary industry.

Effective management skills are crucial for any culinary director who wants to lead their team and ensure the success of the business. Setting clear goals and expectations, providing regular feedback and coaching, and creating a positive working environment require strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and relationships with team members. To manage the financial and operational aspects of the culinary business, such as budgeting, inventory management and menu planning, strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise are essential.

For this reason, I believe that working on their skills and understanding which development style to adopt and what results it can bring by affecting their individual skills,

Leadership, communication, time management, problem solving and in their emotional intelligence.

  • I identified similarities with managerial competencies and Covey's 7 habits and associated them,
understanding what the results of the development impact on these skills could be.

Development Impact on Problem Solving Skills: "Be Proactive,"

  • Improved decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Increased innovation and creativity
  • Enhanced critical thinking skills.

Development Impact on Time Management Skills: "Put First Things First"

  • Increased productivity and efficiency
  • Improved work-life balance
  • Increased accountability and responsibility

Development Impact on Leadership Skills: "Think Win-Win"

  • Improved employee morale and job satisfaction
  • Increased employee collaboration and performance
  • Enhanced organizational culture and reputation.

Development Impact on Communication Skills: "Seek First to Understand

  • Increased employee engagement and motivation
  • Enhanced collaboration and teamwork
  • Reduced misunderstandings and conflicts

Development Impact for Emotional Intelligence Skills: "Synergize"

  • Reduced conflicts and misunderstandings
  • Improved employee morale and job satisfaction

I am thrilled by the idea that effective management skills can inspire team members to strive for excellence and achieve continuous improvement.

I understand that leading a culinary business requires not only culinary skills but also the ability to manage and build a cohesive, happy team that shares a vision and works towards common goals.

Witnessing their progress and results is like watching an exciting and fulfilling show!
