Poor Decision Making - "Is like pissing in sand and trying to see if water comes up".
By Robin Trehan & Jerome Cedicci
Tuesday, 15th August 2006

Wherever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision

The process of taking courageous decision is not a gamble it is a well analyzed process. A decision made with incomplete facts is like pissing in sand and trying to see if water comes up!

When we buy a business we have to make sure we look into all factors and also look into the personnel and organization domain and ask ourselves these questions related to P&O.

  • What are the roles of key executives and personnel?
  • How many employees does the company have?
  • Has the company established standard pay rates for its various positions and is it based on industry average?
  • What is the salary review policy?
  • Are workers unionized?
  • Does the company provide formal job training?
  • Are any employees or management under contract? If so, what are the terms?
We need to remember that management cannot dictate creativity. Management cannot force loyalty. Management can only create an atmosphere that fosters loyalty and encourages creativity. These are important factors for personnel and organizational domain.

What will define a good decision while making a sound judgment will be an inspired idea and perspiration on your shirt. Right decision process is an intelligent due diligence process not "like Pissing in sand and trying to see if water comes out"
