Glasgow Declaration as the Starting Point for Re-Opening Tourism
ITB Berlin 2022 - 4Hoteliers.com news coverage
Thursday, 17th March 2022

According to Malcolm Roughead, CEO of Visit Scotland, after various Covid-19 lockdowns the Scottish tourism authorities are aiming to make the most of the necessary recovery by fully aligning with the criteria of the 2021 COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.

Highlights of the upcoming tourism season include the queen’s platinum jubilee, the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Edinburgh Festival, and numerous other tourism firsts.

2022 has been designated Scotland’s ’year of stories’. Throughout Scotland, events are focusing on the records of historical battles, Walter Scott’s 19th century poem The Lady of the Lake, the publication of which marked the beginning of tourism in Scotland, as well as Harry Potter.

Visitors can follow the world’s first ever UNESCO trail connecting 13 World Heritage Sites, and on the west coast a hiking trail invites visitors to discover the country’s vegan specialities – another first in the UK.

Whisky lovers can inspect two new distilleries and the new premises of Johnnie Walker at Princes Street House in Edinburgh.
