In France the trade fair economy is flourishing; every year about 750 fairs and exhibitions take place between the Rhine and the Pyrenees – this is three times as much as in Germany and the trade fair economy also expedites the hospitality industry.
According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, currently 47 new upper class hotels with 6,480 rooms are in the pipeline. Thereof 17 hotel projects arise in the metropolitan area of Paris.
The trade faire economy partially expands very strong and causes therewith a demand of (new) hotel beds. Several French major cities are planning to increase their capacity considerable for fairs and exhibitions. In Nice besides a new main-line station also a fair centre should arise in the neighbourhood of the airport, which will than belong to the Grand Arènas District the entrance to the “Eco-Vallée”.
In the next three years Strasbourg will invest 230 million Euro into the construction of a new exhibition hall with a size of 50.000 square meters. Also Toulouse has similar plans. On an area size of 50 hectare the construction of a 55,000 square meter roofed exhibition hall is planned as and an open area of 40,000 square meter. The whole project will cost about 157 million Euro.
Nevertheless Paris remains the unchallenged centre of France’s trade fair business. With the goal of a better international positioning since 2008 the fair and congress association Viparis exists – a project in cooperation with the Parisian chamber of industry and commerce (CCIP) and the real estate group Unibail-Rodamco.
Viparis is equipped with more than ten fair and congress centres with an area size of about 650,000 square meters (575,000 roofed). According to the Parisian chamber of industry and commerce CCIP the fair and exhibition sector represents a considerable economy factor for the Ile-de-France with an annual turnover of four billion Euro and 60,000 employees.
Especially in France arise modern and forward-looking hotel concepts since long, this was once a headstone of Europe’s leading hotel group Accor. Now four so-called “New Generation Hotels” are under construction: in Cannes, Grenoble and Nantes arise new Okko hotels and in Paris a CitizenM hotel is in the pipeline. The “New Generation Hotels” stand out by their high level of technologization in all aspects – from the reservation to the whole management controlling.
The CitizenM arises at the international airport Charles de Gaulle (CDG) in Paris. It will be directly connected with the CDG terminal via a shuttle. With its own RER station guest could catch region trains to the city centre of Paris. The hotel will have 230 rooms, the typical food and beverage concept “CanteenM” and the rooms will be furnished with Vitra furniture. The opening is scheduled for early-2014.
The largest tourism project is the „Villages Nature“, a holiday and leisure park with a total number of 520 rooms in a hotel and vocation apartments located near to the Disneyland Paris. One of the most exclusive hotel projects in Paris is the Four Seasons Domaine du Mont d’Arbois.
The boutique hotel only features 55 suites and rooms and is an addition to the exclusive golf and resort site of the Edmond de Rothschild group in Megève in the so-called Savoyer Apls. The opening is planned for spring 2015.
