Since the Hotel's inception in 1985, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has gained a reputation for providing world-class facilities and services complemented by warm Asian hospitality.

And as part of its commitment in keeping to its reputation for providing excellent services as well as to stay ahead of the changing market trends and needs of our international guests, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur recently underwent a major renovation programme.

The renovation, costing RM100 million has just been completed and sees a transformation to the hotel's public areas, food and beverage outlets and Horizon Floor guestrooms.

Hotel Entrance and Lobby
The hotel now takes on "a tropical oasis" effect with its magnificent water gardens, picturesque landscaping complete with luscious greenery and a cascading water feature at the Lower Lobby.

The Main Lobby is enhanced by a super-modernist architectural fountain. Dark marble flooring and a highly stylish reception completes the grandeur and opulence of the lobby.

Food & Beverage Outlets
The Hotel is poised to be the happening hotel in the city with its new dining concepts, offering guests a wide choice of local and international cuisine.

The Lemon Garden Café located on the Lobby Floor opened 8 August 2002. Designed by internationally known interior designer Adam Tihany of New York, the Lemon Garden Cafe has three unique dining concepts.

Cinnamon, the city's ultra-trendy coffee bar is where guests can enjoy their preferred coffee mix accompanied by special jumbo-sized cakes such as baked cheese cake, chocolate truffle, carrot, crunchy apple and almond cakes. There are also fresh-from-the-bakers' oven giant croissants, warm cinnamon buns and over-sized cookies. At Cinnamon, guests can be assured of enjoying the same coffee blend as their preferences will be recorded on a personalized coffee card.

Located next to Cinnamon is the Italian corner, Lemoncello. The focal point of Lemoncello is the pizza oven and Italian show kitchen where specialities such as pizza, pasta and spaghetti will be freshly prepared.

The 'Live' Buffet Arena at Lemon Garden Café is a unique dining concept in the city and the only one of its kind where although it is a buffet, everything is served fresh, The 'Live' Buffet Arena has individual Malay, Indian, Chinese and Continental theatre kitchens where a team of artistic chefs prepare a-la-minute, a gastronomic selection of specialities using the freshest produces. Each section has its own unique characteristic such as tandoori oven at the Indian show kitchen, two large water tanks that house live fishes at the Chinese section while the Western kitchen features an indoor herb garden.

For those who prefer outdoor dining, the Lemon Garden Café has a courtyard for alfresco dining. The Lemon Garden Café seats up to 300 people and is open daily from 6am to 1am.

Lobby Lounge
A modern and contemporary rendezvous spot exuding serenity and tranquility by day; and by night; a trendy venue for fine cocktails and entertainment. This is the "new" Lobby Lounge located on the Lobby Level of the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.

The new Lobby Lounge boasts of an interior that is stylishly chic and fashionable. Its distinct feature is the Lounge Bar where professionally trained bartenders serve the latest contemporary cocktails from around the world. Situated atop the Lounge Bar is the raised fibre-optic stage, the first of its kind in the city where international artistes perform nightly.

Japanese Restaurant
On 11 April 2002, the Nadaman Restaurant reopened as 'Zipangu'. Incorporating East meets West elements, Zipangu, designed by Super Potato of Japan and fashioned after the modern 'Tokyo style' brasserie offers authentic sushi, yakitori and traditional Japanese specialities specially prepared by Japanese Head Chef Tetsuya Yanagida-san. Renowned as the city's most contemporary one-stop entertainment and food outlet, Zipangu features a unique floor-to-ceiling walk-in wine and sake glass cellar, a wine and cigar lounge, a piano bar, 2 private rooms, 5 semi-private enclaves and a-carte dining areas as well as individual sushi, grill and kappou counters.

Restaurant Lafite
Using the most opulent materials and rich colouration in all upholstery, unique carpeting, designer lights and modern chandeliers, the 'mood', 'feeling' and 'atmosphere' of Restaurant Lafite was further redefined by Adam Tihany, the man responsible for the successful creation of Le Cirque and Spago.

Restaurant Lafite which opened it doors on 28 March 2002 sees the addition of a cigar humidor where cigar aficionados can enjoy an exquisite selection of cigars. It also boasts of a dedicated wine tasting room where one can sample the finest selection of both vintage, New World and young wines from the world's finest vineyard stocked in Restaurant Lafite's very own wine cellar. An artistic and unique structural water feature completes the overall seductive atmosphere of the main dining area; adding an "art nouveau" impression. Intimate dinner parties can he held at either one of the two private dining rooms available.

Horizon Club
Guests of the Horizon Club can appreciate the new look of the guestrooms which incorporates a modern and contemporary design with special emphasis on comfort and space. Accentuating this new modern look are novel type furnishings such as accented wardrobes, suspension dome shaped lamps and contemporary table lamps that stand out in stark simplicity.

The new room boasts of a luxurious designer bathroom that allows one to seek sanctuary after the day's work. The commodious bathtub and silk-screen shower cubicle are the main highlights of the spacious bathroom.

The number of floors on the Horizon Club has been increased to five floors from the previous three; bringing the total number of Horizon Club rooms to 107. The "new" Horizon Club was unveiled on 4 June 2002.

Business Centre
Catering to the increasing needs of today's business travellers, the Business Centre has also undergone a transformation. It now boasts of a conference room with a capacity of 20 persons, a boardroom accommodating 8 persons and two smaller meeting rooms for 6 persons. Also available are two individual work stations equipped with personal computers, scanners and printers and 5 internet booths.
