
TravelCLICK reported today that the number of European hotel room nights booked electronically in the third quarter of 2003 increased 5.8% compared to the same quarter last year. The average daily rate (ADR) for the third quarter 2003 was up 6% year-over-year to $161.92. Electronic bookings include room nights booked through both Global Distribution Systems (GDS) and key Internet travel sites.
The results were compiled from TravelCLICK's comprehensive database, which is the exclusive source of hotel industry electronic distribution data from Amadeus, Galileo, Worldspan and Sabre. TravelCLICK's data also includes consumer online hotel bookings made through third party Internet travel sites powered by Pegasus Solutions.

"Gateway cities such as Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris continue to be negatively impacted by economic challenges affecting corporate travel, especially travel from the United States," said Jan Tissera, vice president of international sales for TravelCLICK. "Meanwhile, the increase in intra-European travel has contributed to the positive room night growth for Madrid, Brussels, Barcelona and Stockholm. Based on recent trends, we're optimistic that more markets will experience gains in the fourth quarter."
