The Shangri-La Asia Limited has been assigned the coveted ‘A' rating and named a constituent on the Hang Seng (Mainland China and Hong Kong) Corporate Sustainability Index effective September 2011.

Shangri-La was ranked number 13 by RepuTex, the analytics research partner of the Hang Seng Index, on its Top 20 Honour Board for the Hong Kong market, and is the only hotel brand represented on the list.

The Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series comprises three indices for companies that maintain a strong performance in corporate sustainability, including environmental, social responsibility and corporate governance performance (ESG).  Shangri-La was seen as "demonstrating strong sustainability performance [sic]" according to RepuTex.  The index was issued for the third time and is a testimony to the growing awareness and commitment of Asian companies on sustainable business practices.

"We are honoured to be included in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series.  This rating, in particular in the areas of employee development, organisational culture and diversity, and community investment confirms and validates our efforts, and we remain deeply committed to improving our results across all aspects of ESG in the future," said Greg Dogan, president and chief executive officer of Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd.

Shangri-La published its first Sustainability Report entitled Enhance, Enrich, Embrace in May 2011.  The report shows the company's commitment to environmental protection and resource management, a focus on social development through investments made in the welfare of colleagues and business partners and Shangri-La's Care for People Project committing each hotel to education and health projects in local children's organisations over a minimum of five years.
