The Yangon International Airport is expected to undergo an expansion, as traffic volume at the airport is approaching capacity.
With a strong increase in arrivals this year, the Myanmar government is planning to extend and upgrade the airport in order to increase the annual passenger capacity from 2.7 million to 3.8 million.
The airport had a 21.7% year-on-year increase in international arrivals in the last quarter, with over 51,000 international visitor arrivals, while domestic arrivals were recorded at over 360,000, up 23.5%.
Total arrivals at the airport are anticipated to hit 2 million passengers this year and are expected to surpass the airport's capacity of 2.7 million passengers a year.
