Here is a round-up of some of the biggest stories from 2010.
January saw the official opening of the world's tallest building: the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai.

February, Accor sold not one but five hotels to Invesco Real Estate for €154 million.
March saw Scandic sign an agreement to purchase four hotels from Next Hotels Finland Oy.

April, the Landmark Group made its entry into the hotel industry with the launch of its Citymax Hotels brand.
Marriott International announced its plans to debut in the Balkans, in
May, with the Skopje Marriott Hotel.
In
June, Rezidor Hotel Group and Carlson Hospitality sold the Regent brand to Formosa International Hotels Corporation for US$56 million.
Louvre Hotels decided to hold a summer sale in
July when it put its entire 1,549-room UK portfolio on the market for a reported £70 million.
August saw Pandox acquire Norway-based Norgani Hotels for €1 billion.
In
September, as autumn rolled around, causing a flurry of leaves to fall in London, CitizenM announced its entry to the UK capital with two hotels that are expected to open at the end of 2011.
October was the month that AC Hotels and Marriott International got together to form a new brand: AC Marriott.
After a year of uncertainty from the recent global financial crisis, in
November Invesco released its plans to raise €500 million for a new hotel fund, and Marriott International bought The Berners Hotel, in London, for an undisclosed sum from JJW Hotels & Resorts.
Finally, in
December a joint venture, comprising Event Holding, Midstar, and Sveafastigheter, acquired Accor Hotels Sweden AB through a sale-and-franchise-back transaction.
