It is now definitive: The Hamburg Water Tower in the Sternschanzen Park will become a Mövenpick Hotel. Together with PATRIZIA Immobilien AG, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts signed a leasing contract for this unusual object, which, after extensive renovation work, will open as a 4-start hotel at the beginning of 2006.
The 60 metre high water tower, which was built between 1907 1910, is the largest water tower in Europe and, after the conversion, will have 226 rooms divided over 16 floors, including eight executive rooms, eight junior suites and two tower suites. By means of a 75 metre-long moving walkway, the future guests will travel from the entrance in the lower-ground floor to the lobby of the hotel, which stands on a small hill. A Mövenpick restaurant with 150 seats with a terrace to the park, the Lobby Bar, a business centre, 450m˛ of conference rooms, a fitness centre and 90 parking spaces will be available with a state-of-the-art infrastructure.
In addition to business travellers and individual tourists, the new Mövenpick hotel will be especially attractive for visitors to the trade fairs, as the extension of the Hamburger Messe can be easily reached by foot within a few minutes. In addition, the "Sternschanze" station of the fast urban railway (S-Bahn) is immediately in front of the hotel and can bring guests to the centre of Hamburg within a few minutes.
"We are very pleased that Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts will now also be represented in Hamburg. In combination with the modern interior decoration, a unique and unmistakable hotel will be created within the historical fabric of the building. Here, we will offer our guests Swiss quality at the highest level paired with gastronomic know-how ā la Mövenpick", said Stefan Flury, the Senior Vice President for Europe at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. "Following the opening of the Mövenpick Hotel Berlin at the end of this year, which is also built within a historical building, the future Mövenpick Hotel Hamburg represents a further important step in our expansion in Germany ". |
