The South Korean government has announced plans to develop an ecotourism belt along the demilitarised zone (DMZ) between South Korea and North Korea.
The DMZ is approximately 248 kilometres long and four kilometres wide, and is renowned for its richness in biodiversity. An observation centre for monitoring and preservation of natural wildlife forms part of the development plans.
In addition, the authorities also have plans to set up parks and meeting centres for students across the borders to interact.
