Near term outlook for the Asia pacific region, highlighting the performances of several regional power houses.
China – The economy is recovering much faster than expected because of stimulus spending and banks loans. There are concerns about the sustainability of consumer spending and the quality of bank loans.
India – While the economy is doing better than expected, it is facing a serious risk because of the failure of the monsoon rains. Other concerns include the rise in the fiscal deficit.
Japan – The economy is recovering from its lows because of a pickup in global economic growth, especially in China. Domestic consumption still remains weak and threatens the incipient recovery.
Singapore – The economy rebounded sharply in the second-quarter of 2009. Though up in recent months, there are still significant concerns vis-à-vis the industrial sector.
