Travel companions most likely holiday spoilers.
Thursday, 6th August 2009

If you want to enjoy your holiday, you'd better pick your travelling partners carefully.

According to Skyscanner, moody and stroppy companions have been voted the number one reason for spoiling holidays.

In a recent poll on the Skyscanner site, 15% of voters said that 'moody/stroppy companions' were the reason for their bad holiday experience. 'Rubbish weather' was not far behind, taking 11% of the vote, joint second along with 'illness'.

'Bad customer service', 'insect bites' and 'travel delays'  all came in joint third as holiday spoilers, with 10% of the vote each.

'Awful food', 'feeling fat on the beach' and 'horrible hotel' came in joint fourth place, each taking 8% of the vote.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner cofounder and director commented:

"Holidays are essentially fun times, but we've all had a trip that didn't work out. Whilst we can't change the weather, we can choose our travelling companions and if we're spending a week or two with the same people almost 24/7, personalities can clash. The message from Skyscanner is simple: choose your fellow travellers carefully if you want to enjoy your holiday."

Other 'holiday spoilers' cited by Skyscanner users included 'bringing the kids,' 'lack of leg room on the flight', 'being the victim of theft' and in a somewhat specific suggestion: 'Benidorm'.
