The JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Jakarta have reopened for guests, almost two weeks after they were damaged by a bombing attack.
In the meantime, the hotels have implemented enhanced security measures. Both hotels were targeted by suicide bombers on July 17th which left 9 people dead and over 50 injured. A third bomb did not go off.
4Hoteliers.com reported earlier that the occupancy trends of hotels in Jakarta have not shown any significant fluctuations while Bali hotels have not reported declines in occupancy. However, minor groups of guests have been transferring from foreign-controlled hotels to local luxury ones.
In addition, local hoteliers have warned of the repercussions of visitors avoiding Indonesia if there is no progress with the investigation of the bombings.
The explosions at the Marriott killed a New Zealander, three Australians, an Indonesian cook and approximately 6 Americans were wounded. At the Ritz-Carlton hotel a Dutch couple died and the suicide note that was left behind stated that the attack was aimed at the football players of Manchester United, scheduled to check in the following day.
