Marriott International has announced plans to expand in China, adding another 40 hotels by 2013.
The hotel chain is expected to have 14 hotels in Shanghai before the Shanghai World Expo 2010 and 21 hotels in the city by 2013.
Marriott International will also further expand in second-tier Chinese cities such as Hangzhou, Nanjing, Dalian, Chengdu and Ningbo.
The 40 hotels will range from luxury brands to moderately priced brands and increase the hotel chain's China portfolio to 70 properties. The hotel chain was reported to open 57 new hotels in Asia in 2009, among which 21 would be located in China.
