The Malaysian Health Ministry has announced plans to draw up a masterplan to intensify the promotion of health tourism in the country.
The Tourism Ministry and Malaysian Society for Quality in Health are in discussion to draw up a proper framework and guidelines for the industry.
In 2008, there were approximately 370,000 foreign patients generating some US$85.5 million in revenue in Malaysia. Additionally, the health tourism industry in Malaysia was reported to grow at around 30% per annum.
