To help travelers select the best accommodation within their budget, VisitBritain, the national tourist office for England, Scotland, and Wales, has unveiled the forthcoming openings for 2009.
London In January 2009, the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street Hotel will have completed $41 million renovation. This West End hotel will have 174 bedrooms, seven new conference rooms, and a chic new Bloomsbury Street Bar & Restaurant.
Apex London Wall Hotel is set to open in the summer of 2009 in the city's financial district. The building, once an office block, is set to be a stylish 89 bedroom hotel complete with a restaurant, bar, conference facilities and fitness suite which will cost about $61 million.
Berners Hotel, a four star hotel, is located on Oxford Street, one of the most popular shopping areas in London. Berners is rich in history, dating back to 1835. The property recently closed its doors to complete a $34 million refurbishment in 2009. London's most iconic luxury hotel, the Savoy, located in the West End Theater district, is currently undergoing a $200 million renovation and is set to re-open in May 2009. The restoration will include enhanced suites overlooking the River Thames, renovated guest rooms, corridors and all public areas, including the re-opening of the River Restaurant.
England By venturing west from London to Wiltshire, the Bowood Hotel will offer 43 bedrooms and six suites along with a spa, an 82 seat restaurant, a bar and two lounges. The spa will consist of a swimming pool, gym, rock sauna, crystal steam room, and aromatherapy showers. This hotel will link with the existing golf and country club when it opens to the public on May 1, 2009.
The Radisson SAS Hotel - Bristol promises to be an eye catching building in the city center. This hotel will offer 176 bedrooms including business class rooms and suites, as well as a fully-equipped gym, free internet access and speedy check out. The Radisson SAS will open in February/March 2009.
Another Bristol-based property is the Holiday Inn and this establishment is expected to open in September 2009. This hotel will have 211 rooms, a heated indoor swimming pool, a gym, two restaurants, and a spa. The property will also have, WiFi high-speed internet and state of the art conference rooms including 14 rooms with many purposes from business meetings to dinner balls.
By traveling north to Liverpool, the Liverpool Hilton will offer 216 rooms spread over eight floors, 10 meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a restaurant. The hotel will be situated on the historic site of the world's first commercial dock, adjacent to Chavasse Park, when it opens to the public in early 2009.
The well-known Ramada Plaza brand is expecting an addition in early 2009 in Southport, just 30 minutes away from Liverpool. This four star hotel will have 133 rooms, bars and restaurants along with extensive meeting facilities to complement the newly refurbished Floral Hall Conference Center.
In Manchester, Eastgate Tower will be built on the site of an old section of railway viaduct in Manchester's city center. The 60 story building will provide guests with 220 rooms, a fitness center, conference facilities, restaurants, and bars. This building is going to be the largest one in the UK outside of London and is expected to be the first, out of many, buildings to change the Manchester skyline when it opens in 2009.
If you travel north to Durham, Rockcliffe Hall is a 375-acre development featuring a five star hotel, a spa, restaurants, private housing development and a championship golf course. The property is scheduled to open in 2009. Rockcliffe Hall is situated on the County Durham and North Yorkshire border, close to Darlington and Newcastle.
Scotland In Edinburgh, the new Apex hotel is scheduled to open in March 2009. The hotel will feature 141 city rooms, 41 superior rooms, 11 deluxe rooms and three suites. Apex will have a large, theater-style conference suite which will accommodate up to 220 delegates along with five other meeting rooms.
Hotel Du Vin is set to open on December 8, 2008 in the heart of Edinburgh's historic old town. The hotel refurbishment will be $16 million and will include 47 bedrooms, a Bistro restaurant and a bar.
Another Edinburgh-based property will be the Hotel Missoni. This property will have 130 guest rooms, Bar Missoni, Missoni Cucina with private dining, a spa, a fitness center, as well as conference rooms when it opens to the public in 2009.
Located in Glasgow, Blythswood Square will be a new five star hotel addition to the Town House Company's collection of boutique properties. The hotel will have 88 rooms, luxury suites, penthouse and apartments, as well as a state-of-the-art spa and extensive conference facilities. This property is scheduled to open in early 2009.
The Crown Plaza Hotel will replace the existing Holiday Inn in Bothwell Street, Glasgow City Center. This $197 million project is set to provide guests with 300 rooms, a function suite, health and fitness facilities, and a conference center.
By venturing north to Aberdeen, the Malmaison Aberdeen, formerly the Queens Hotel, has undergone a $11 million refurbishment. This property will have 82 rooms, a gym, a restaurant and bar when it opens in November 2008.
Located in Ayrshire, Turnberry Resort, will undergo a $48 million refurbishment to renovate and redesign the property. The rooms will be re-configured to meet the needs of a modern hotel while retaining its original character and general layout. The property will re-open on July 1, 2009 as part of Starwood Hotel's Luxury Collection portfolio.
Wales By venturing south west to the town of Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey, The Townhouse is a stylish boutique hotel with 13 rooms with colorful names such as Clementine, Chocolate, Cream, Ebony, Fuschia, Indigo, Lilac, Pistachio, Plum, Scarlet, Silver and Sky. This property will open in November 2008.
Rossett Hall Hotel in Wrexham in North Wales has had a $1.5 million renovation to upgrade this hotel to a four star property. As part of the development, 20 executive en-suite bedrooms with internet access have been added, as well as upgrading the 30 existing rooms. Two meeting rooms have been built and the restaurant has been refurbished. This property is scheduled to open in 2009.
Located at the foot of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, the Felin Newydd House has recently been renovated to provide private venue groups for up to 18 people in double bedrooms. The property, which presents a serene, hospitable environment, will open in 2009.
The Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club located in Chepstow has undergone a major transformation during the past year and has announced the completion of multiple projects designed to enhance the quality of the hotel and golf course. The $1.8 million remodel project includes refurbishment of hotel bedrooms, restaurants, bars, leisure club and spa when it re-opens in 2009. |
