For every US Olympic and Paralympic medal won, trees and forests will be planted as a unique environmental tribute.
Doubletree Hotels wishes to celebrate accomplishments by some of the world's most talented athletes this summer.
For every medal Team USA receives at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, Doubletree will donate trees to a variety of need-based, reforestation projects across America through the Arbor Day Foundation.
- For every gold medal, Doubletree will donate 100 trees to be planted in the athlete's honor
- For every silver medal, Doubletree will donate 50 trees to be planted in the athlete's honor
- For every bronze medal, Doubletree will donate 25 trees to be planted in the athlete's honor
The countdown campaign for the Doubletree U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Commemorative Forest initiative began with the first medal events received on August 9th and will continue through the close of the Paralympic Games on September 17, 2008.
Each medal-winning athlete will receive a tree-planting certificate in dedication of their incredible achievement.
"Doubletree Hotels is proud to be able to recognize and honor America's medal recipients with a living and growing tree tribute. This special commemoration of our U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams will help re-green a variety of areas across America that can truly use our help," said Mary Beth Parks, vice president - brand marketing for Doubletree.
The Doubletree U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Forest initiative is the hotelier's latest environmental effort aimed at raising awareness about the importance of trees and the role they can play in preserving the planet's natural resources.
During the past five years, more than 250,000 trees have been planted as a result of collective environmental education and awareness campaigns by Doubletree Hotels and the Arbor Day Foundation.
