A Sweet Way to Keep the Buzz GoingThe Vanilla Honey Bee dessert on the A La Mode menu uses fresh seasonal fruit and features a new ice cream flavor developed to specifically raise awareness of the plight of the honey bees and to help fund research to save them. Tens of thousands of honey bees in 24 states across the United States are vanishing from their hives and dying in the fields. The Häagen-Dazs brand created a new Web site to provide more information on its efforts to support honey bee populations:
www.helpthehoneybees.com. Honey bees play a key role in creating ingredients regularly found in ice cream, such as almonds and strawberries, 40% of the ingredients that are found in many of the unique Häagen-Dazs flavors. A portion of the proceeds from Hyatt's purchase of Vanilla Honey Bee ice cream will be allocated to Häagen-Dazs' $250,000 donation to University of California at Davis and Pennsylvania State University for sustainable pollination research programs.
The chic A La Mode collection will be debuting this month in Hyatt restaurants and through in-room dining at participating hotels and resorts in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
