Each year, more than three million people die of this disease and its consequences - Nearly 90 percent of these deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa, with over 75 percent being children under the age of five.
WORLDHOTELS, the leading European based group of independent hotels, has pledged its support for Malaria No More Deutschland e.V., an organization dedicated to fight Malaria.
WORLDHOTELS will focus its support in Congo, a country with one of the highest estimated infection rates. In co-operation with the Red Cross, the non-profit organisation Malaria No More Deutschland e.V. is implementing an initiative in the region of Kindu, which was already successful in reducing cases of Malaria by 35% in six months.
The donation of WORLDHOTELS will be used to provide impregnated mosquito nets to individuals affected by the
disease.
In support of World Malaria Day on 25th April, a charity ceremony will be held at the WORLDHOTELS property, Hotel Savoy in Berlin.
The CEO of WORLDHOTELS, Michael Ball, commented: "It is good to see that concerns such as Malaria No More are fighting back on behalf of us all. The organisation is run by its founder and our funds will flow directly in the
Democratic Republic of Congo project and will therefore make an immediate difference to those affected."
