As the hospitality industry increases its commitment to reducing its impact on the environment, Hotels.tv has launched a search to identify independent hotels in the UK which have demonstrated real progress in this area. The Bedruthan Steps Hotel, Mawgan Porth, Cornwall has been identified as a possible contender for the accolade.
Harrison Brown, founder of Hotels.tv and seasoned hotel critic explains: "Green credentials are playing an increasingly important role in consumers' choice of hotel. Many of the major chains are proving their commitment and being rewarded for their achievement. However, the independents are finding it more difficult to compete on this basis. With this in mind, we want to investigate just how independents are greening their business, and highlight their successes.
"I recently stayed at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel at Mawgan Porth and of all the hotels I have reviewed in this country, it really stood out in terms of its environmental credentials and commitment to the local community. We want to use this as a benchmark by which we will judge others"
Hotels will be judged on a range of criteria including:
- Reduction in energy consumption
- Waste minimisation
- Recycling
- Use of local suppliers
