Rakuten buys Viber, plans to penetrate new markets.

Rakuten, mother company of Rakuten Travel - an OTA - has made a successful bid to acquire instant messaging and calling app developer Viber Media for $900 million.
 
Rakuten has made several acquisitions in recent years, under which, Canada's ebook platform Kobo, Spanish video service Wuaki.tv, and Viki, a digital content platform.
 
The company aims to be the world's number one Internet services company, and buying Viber highlights its moves to penetrate new markets.
