New top hotels in Vienna: Soon the new Meliá Vienna will open its doors in Austria's largest skyscraper and in June the Park Hyatt will start the operation in the city centre; with an increasing number of overnight stays (+3,7 percent last year) also the need of new hotel beds is growing.
According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, eight new hotel construction projects with 1,636 rooms are currently under construction in Vienna. Last year about 2,000 new rooms entered the market.
New highlight for Vienna's top hospitality will be the Park Hyatt (143 rooms, thereof 35 suites). The opening was planned for last year, but in consequent of a huge fire the former "Länderbankzentrale" building was damaged. One of the areas which was destroyed by the fire was restored true to original, says the building contractor from Signa Holding. New opening date is set for June.

In Vienna's new landmark, the Donau-City (DC) Tower, which since its completion in autumn 2013 counts as largest skyscraper in Austria with 250 meter (including a 30 meter antenna), the new stylish Meliá Vienna with 253 rooms by the Spanish chain Meliá Hotel Internation will open its doors and therefore will be the first Austrian property by the chain, which operates more than 350 city and vacation hotels worldwide.
The tourism experts from the famous consulting company Kohl & Partner are expecting a new dare through the increasing number of beds: the average price for a room last year was 94,38 Euro and therefore below the level of 2009.
More overnight stays and more demand of more expensive top hotels are necessary.
Apparently an increasing number of visitors of Vienna prefer staying in budget hotels. That is why the Motel One is focussing on the Austrian capital. A third hotel (530 rooms) is under construction near the train station; opening is scheduled for this year's November.
