As a sustainability-dedicated hotel group, Langham leads its three hotels in Hong Kong to participate in 'Love Our Planet – 22/4 Hong Kong Goes Green Monday' campaign by offering and promoting vegetarian menus in all its 19 restaurants and lounges on Monday, 22 April 2013, coinciding with the International Earth Day, and this green practice will be continued on every Monday.

As part of the continued efforts to support green initiatives, the culinary teams of The Langham, Langham Place and Eaton hotels in Hong Kong have meticulously designed an array of healthy vegetarian options for guests to enjoy whilst supporting the meaningful campaign.

This eco-conscious campaign is organised by the social enterprise Green Monday. Green Monday is a project to encourage healthy and environmentally friendly living in Hong Kong and its pioneer project is to go "meatless on Mondays" as a means to reduce carbon footprint whilst improving one's health. The 22 April citywide event is sponsored by Great Eagle Holdings Limited, the parent company of Langham Hospitality Group.

"Knowing Hong Kong has the second highest carbon footprint per capital of any country in the world, we hope by taking little steps like having meals without meat for one day will impact positively to the earth," says Carmen Ng, Sustainability Manager of Langham Hospitality Group. "It is truly a great and simple initiative to remind ourselves to start a wholesome and green-conscious Monday after heavy meals over the weekend."

Ms Ng added another initiative in supporting the campaign, "the hotels' cafeterias will be providing vegetarian menu to encourage our colleagues to "go green" from that day onwards. We believe with everyone's small efforts, it will make a huge difference."

The organisers of Green Monday have indicated that if everyone in Hong Kong goes meatless once a week, it would be equivalent to an annual reduction of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon emission, requiring over 65 million trees to offset.

The collaboration with Green Monday started in August 2012 when Langham Place, Mongkok, became the first hotel in Hong Kong to support this key initiative by providing vegetarian menu options and encouraging its guests to savour more greens and go meatless every Monday.

The 19 participating restaurants and lounges of the three hotels are:
