China and India are going through an ongoing hotel construction boom; an analysis revealed that in these two East-Asian countries 853 new top hotels with more than 225,000 rooms are under construction and will be developed.
The investment of the fourth largest hotel chain of the world, Marriott International, makes clear which hotel development is taking. In 15 Asian countries 129 new luxury and first class hotels with approximately 75,000 rooms will be operated by the brands Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Bulgari, Renaissance, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Courtyard and Marriott Executive Apartments in addition to the already existing 129 hotel properties.
China still is in the spotlight of Marriott's international development activities: During the next three to four years the current portfolio consisting of 59 four and five star rated hotels will double. This strong growth goes along with plenty of new job vacancies – Marriott aims to provide more than 70,000 new job vacancies in the Middle Kingdom. The latest top hotel project – the 250th Marriott hotel in China – is the Renaissance Bo'ao Resort & Spa on the beautiful Hainan Island in South China (TOPHOTELPROJECTS Nr. 14065).
The interest in China has various reasons: During the past year round about one million Chinese travelled to the USA. In the following four years the World Travel & Tourism Council forecasted that the number of outbound travelers will grow by an astonishing 247 percent.
The worldwide largest hotel chain InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) also invests strongly in China. Currently 31 new top hotels are under construction and planning. Hilton Worldwide, the second largest hotel chain on the planet, develops 28 new hotel properties. And the global number three, Wyndham Worldwide, builds 19 new hotels. Finally Accor, in size the fifth largest hotel chain, will incorporate 16 new hotels.
In China the hotel construction boom seems endless. According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS a total of 534 new luxury and first class hotels, totaling 171,000 rooms, are and will be constructed.
In India 314 upcoming hotels, exceeding 54,000 rooms, are in the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database radar. Top of the industry is IHG, developing 11 new top hotel properties with more than 22,000 units.
