Tips For The New Romance of 2014.
By Yeoh Siew Hoon
Monday, 30th December 2013

So if you were to ask me what I will remember most about 2013, I'd say it's the year Asia truly came of age.

Sure, she's been noticed before. People have whispered about her attraction. The people who know her well already know that she's special. But I am now talking big-time, mass-scale, global-level kind of attention.

Suddenly, she's the belle of the ball. Everyone wants to dance with her. Everyone wants to court her. Everyone wants to have a relationship with her. She's the new-ish girl on the block.

The other girls have aged, run out of money, ran up too much debt, become too stuck in their ways … she's younger, dare I say firmer, more exciting, full of promise and possibilities – someone you think you can mould perhaps; feel you can build a new future with in a land of plenty.

Hail the new romance of 2014.

But like with all new romances, it comes fraught with danger. How do you ensure the romance lasts, that it's not just a one-night stand or you make a commitment only to have a bust-up soon after and your heart broken (and your pockets emptier)? How do you ensure a happy-ever-after kind of ending?

Well, in the spirit of Christmas, which is about giving, I thought I'd share some tips on how to woo and win the girl and live happily ever after.

1. Remember she's many girls-in-one. A girl is never just one persona. She's several. Depends on her moods. Don't call her diverse. Fragmented. "It's complicated" says it better. Yet at heart, despite the different personas, she's a simple girl – she wants everything everyone wants – trust, respect, honesty. A sense of humour helps.
