Our little bed project has been delighting people literally around the world since 2006 and we are very grateful that you keep reading the site.
We firmly believe that your photographs are the most hilarious, interesting, and good-natured images anywhere. Some of our biggest fans are from the hotel industry, and we are always happy to receive comments from our readers.
This week, however, we received an email from an anonymous hotel general manager who doesn't quite feel the same way as we do about our blog activity. We're all about "Warm & Fuzzy", but this note hit more of an "Itchy & Scratchy" tone.
Since we believe that everyone has the right to express his opinion, even if anonymously, here is the note:
I welcome you to come to my hotel and bed jump! I'm just looking for an excuse to replace our beds from guests abusing our property. Just don't be surprised when you bust the frames from such stupid activities that I charge your credit card the cost of replacing the bed. Our beds are inspected daily and be sure you read the fine print on your registration form that states any damages to our hotel rooms will be charged, including beds which can cost hundreds of dollars to replace. What idiot would encourage such activity!
Wow, that's a great question! Happy to respond….
My name is Chris Clarke, and I'm the "idiot" who promotes this activity along with my colleagues at HotelsByCity.net. We couldn't agree more that hotel guests should be responsible for their actions, and should any damage ensue from any guest activity, guests should be held accountable.
We also know with 100% conviction that a quality bed, in a quality hotel can withstand far more activity than a few bed flops. In fact, in all my years as a senior hotel manager, if I thought that bed jumping was the worst thing happening in my guestrooms, I would have slept like a baby.
So, Dear G.M., we hear you, and we respect your opinion. And if you are still suffering with low quality beds in your hotel, drop us an email and we'll be very happy to send you a list of vendors and suppliers from our network who will be more than happy to give you a great deal on new beds that will last for many years–with, or without bed jumping.
As for our blog, if you were to read through a few pages of bed jump stories you would surely find that we do not promote damaging guestrooms at all, nor do we think it's cool to do so.
Thanks for sharing Hotel G.M., and if you like, please tell us the name of your hotel so we can issue a global "BedJump Embargo" to our international readers. We'll be happy to comply.
Unfortunately, we can't do much about the absence of a sense of humour.
