When is Enough, Enough?
By Leelawadee Suwanseree

The number of millionaires in the world increased by more then 8% in 2006 with about 9 1/2 million individuals now estimated to have more than a million dollars in financial assets -

With the latest statistics from the major hotel chains in the world setting unprecedented records of growth and profits, you would think that they would pass these benefits and salary increases down to the people that "actually make it happen".

I would like to thank Keith Kefgen and Jay Rehman and several others who have the courage to stand up and write about the obscenities of the CEO's and VP's salaries and bonuses.

Unfortunately, I personally think they are far to kind. Apparently these bonus compensations are not scrutinized enough from the owners and shareholders and as many companies are opting to hide in a private environment. All companies regardless of their field should be held accountable and made to make their books open.

Hotel salaries in general have not increased versus the rate of inflation in the last 10-12 years and in many cases decreased. The world statistics showed that since 1985 hotel and restaurant salaries have only increased 35% while CEO's around the globe have increased 292%.  Disney's CEO Robert Iger with a 15,000,000 bonus should have share holders and individuals throughout the world furious!

The list is much the same with all the major companies and chains VP's. I personally would boycott anything Disney, and thousands of other should do the same. It would make far more business sense, corporate responsibility and corporate morality to reduce gate prices at all the theme parks. Families wouldn't have to mortgage their homes to spend a day at the park and maybe they could afford to take the families more frequently to the theme parks.

Most hotel employees around the world are one step ahead of welfare together with maintaining two full time jobs, just to make ends meet and to support their families. It is becoming increasingly alarming at the greed of these Owners, Shareholders, CEO's and General Managers with the pay gaps widening year after year.

Tributes should be set up and recognize the likes of "pay-for-performers model", Mr. McCarten and to take the lead as Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffet have done. This is truly corporate morality at its best. We as individuals have lost our souls and morality when the meaning of life, relates only to the bottom line.

How long do these CEO's and shareholders, think this is continue that the employees around the world will tolerate these obscene increases? It is "mind boggling" to a countless amount of people that these individuals could even accept these bonuses or at least, not pass it down to the people that made it possible for them to achieve their bonuses?

Here is a new marketing concept for you CEO's and VP's. Imagine a hotel company where every employee is a share holder? Not "lip service", but truly shareholders? If the hotel made a profit with a fair return to the owners, the bonuses would be divided equally amongst all employees at all ranks? Imagine the corporate image of this company and the benefits from by demonstrating to the general public, "Corporate Responsibility?"

This in return, would relate to even higher occupancies and Rev-PAR's. Your employees would be happier and more productive, as they are truly benefiting from the success of the hotel, being true team members and able to provide, just that little more to take care of their families?

As a wise person once wrote;

"If you want to change the world, you must be the change;

You want to see in the world".
