In Contortions Over Mancations.
By Yeoh Siew Hoon ~ thetransitcafe.com

Yeoh Siew Hoon dreams of a hotel that she will build one day. It will be aimed at men only. It will be called Hotel Mancations, or something like that.

The other day I got an email from a man who wrote, "I am all ready to bat for Mancations."

At first I thought he was offering to teach me a new dance form but with more contortions than the Macarena which is, when you think about it, a rather silly dance with all those silly hand movements which I can never quite get.

Then I thought maybe it's a new form of Manga comic which comes with translation. But as the day filled up with more distractions, Mancations went out of my mind.

Then I read an article the very next day that told me that mancations are now the biggest trend in travel, and is ready to come to a destination near you.

I think it used to be called boy's night out, stud party, all-male getaways or something like that but now it's called mancations – groups of men travelling together to do their thing.

The market is so hot right now that one man, Gene Grabarnick, has built a hotel just for men. The Regent South Beach in the US is offering everything from poker parties to hand-rolled cigars, buckets of beer to sports tickets to lure male customers.

So is that what men do these days on holidays?

I wouldn't know. All I know is, as a kid growing up in Penang, I used to hear of all-male getaways to places like Hatyai and I don't think the hotels there were offering things like hand-rolled cigars.

Be that as it may, this piece of research I have just unearthed may come in handy for those who want to specialize in mancations or hey, why not chickations? Women too love to travel with one another. After all, when the men are away, the women have to play too.

According to a survey from Zuji Australia, Australian men and women have different habits when we travel, especially when it comes to matters of lust and libido.

In general, more men than women love to flirt with flight attendants – could this be because there are more attendants who are more likely to flirt with men? Inflight life is just not fair, I tell you.

More men than women also admitted to fantasing about joining the Mile High Club while seven percent said they were already members.

As for what they pack, women tend to bring more shoes than men – that's because we walk more – and women also tend to bring more underpants than men – that's because we wash more.

A couple of things the two sexes agreed on: It is more romantic to be proposed to while on holidays and French is the sexiest foreign accent, followed by Brazilian.

So if I were building a hotel to specialize in mancations, I'd have a shoe cleaner, an underpant dispenser and oh yes, an all-women staff who flirt and fantasise as much as the men.
