2018 FIFA World Cup host cities - In December 2010, Sepp Blatter, President of the FIFA announced that Russia had won the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
A lot of work has to be done during the next seven years to get ready to this huge event: construction of stadiums and training sites, development of transport infrastructure and accommodation facilities.
In this review, we have focused our attention on the hospitality markets in the Russian host cities that were included in the bid for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Are the accommodation facilities of the host cities sufficient? Is there anything we can learn from the countries that hosted the World Cup in previous years?
We look at the current situation in the regional hospitality markets, major market indicators and refer to the experience of the countries that hosted the World Cup in 2006 and 2010 – Germany and South Africa.
