The competition began on 26 June 2010 to mark the launch of Shangri-La's Signature Wedding, the group's one-stop-shop wedding service, which is available at all Shangri-La branded hotels in China.  The competition encouraged would-be couples to share their idea of a dream wedding by submitting creative entries in writing, graphic design or video.

The contest received over 85 entries from all over the country.  The official website of the contest at cosmobridemag.com.cn received over 100,000 votes to select the best creations. Japanese bridal gowns designer Yumi Katsura, China's leading wedding planner I Do, and a popular jewellery brand Chow Tai Fook, also participated in this project by sponsoring a bridal fashion show, part of the set up for the award ceremony and jewelleries for the top winners.

The competition presented prizes in three categories - Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.  The winners were selected by a renowned panel of judges, including Ms Gao Yijing, a top wedding planner and Mr. Xia Donghao, wedding consultant from Taiwan, and Ms Wen Yi, a famous gourmet blogger, writer and television hostess from Beijing.

"There are various marketing activities on offer at Shangri-La each year, but I must say the ‘My Dream Wedding at Shangri-La' creative competition was one of the most creative, inspired and original," said Kent Zhu, group director of sales and marketing of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.  "It complements Shangri-La's Signature Weddings program, which was designed to make this special day flawless and unforgettable."

Ms Gao Yijing, one of the judges for the competition, said, "I'm very grateful to Shangri-La for organising this competition, which gave me the opportunity to read so many loving stories.  I have been very touched by the participants' works on their dream wedding, their expectations of life, their commitment and gratitude to their parents and loved ones.  A wedding depicts sublime love and I sincerely hope that each of the would-be couples can realise their dream wedding and continue their creativity and tenacious perseverance into their marriage life."
