Singapore Changi tops worldwide airport poll.
Tuesday, 19th October 2010
Source : Priority Pass
For the second successive year members of Priority Pass have voted Singapore Changi airport as their favorite, followed closely by Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok.

These two are a long way ahead of the rest. The biggest jump in our rankings last year is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, which enters the top ten for the first time.

Here are the ten airports you told us are your favorites:

1.Singapore Changi
2.Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Intl
3.Dubai World Central Intl
4.Copenhagen
5.Amsterdam Schiphol
6.Seoul Incheon International
7.Zurich
8.Lima Jorge Chavez Intl
9.Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Intl
10.Houston TX Intercontinental

Your least favorite airports
We also had the same result as last year at the bottom of our members' airport rankings.  The three airports you like least are London LHR, Paris CDG and Los Angeles LAX.

Mobile phones on board aircraft
The prospect of more airlines allowing passengers to use mobile phones inflight is not one that makes you happy in general.

47% of our members say they are unhappy about the idea, with only 26% saying they are happy (the rest are neutral).

It is interesting to note some quite significant regional differences here.  Europeans seem to be much less enthusiastic than average, while those from Latin America like the idea a lot more.

Use of "no frills" airlines
Overall, 66% of our members have used the so-called "no frills" airlines at some point.  Clearly a key factor in this is whether such airlines have strong networks where you travel.  It was no particular surprise to see that our members from Ireland have used such airlines more than anyone else, given that Europe's largest no frills carrier, Ryanair, is based there.  Members in Malaysia, South Africa and the UK also revealed relatively frequent use.

Least likely to use such airlines are those in Israel, Taiwan, Iceland and Hong Kong.

Travel Trends
If our members are any guide, it looks as if the airline industry is pulling out of the worst of the recession.  The difference between those whose business travel has increased over the last 12 months, compared to those who say it has decreased was +5 percentage points.  When we asked this question at the same time in 2009, this figure was actually –(minus)5 percentage points.

And, looking ahead, the positive news gets better.  Comparing those who anticipate more travel over the next year with those who anticipate a reduction, the difference is +38 percentage points, which compares to +32 in our survey last year.

Your requirements from airport lounges
When we asked you to rank different aspects of an airport lounge, you told us clearly that the most important things are the comfort of the seating area and the quality of refreshments.

This coincides with what you said you do most often in a lounge, which is to eat and drink.

We'll be passing the detailed results of this survey to our partner lounges and, of course, we will continue to work closely with them to make sure your airport lounge experience is as comfortable as possible.

And do you enjoy business travel?
We assume that everyone enjoys leisure travel, even if there are some frustrations.  But we were interested to know if those of you who travel on business enjoy that too.

Overall, 83% of those who travel on business say they enjoy it.  The happiest business travelers are to be found in Saudi Arabia, Peru and Colombia, where more than 95% enjoy it.  The least happy are in France, UK, Finland and USA, where more than 25% say they don't enjoy it.
