The Gucci Group has filed a lawsuit against the great-granddaughter of its founder over a proposed hotel chain.

Elisabetta Gucci, whose great-grandfather Guccio Gucci founded the label in Florence in 1921, has partnered with Abu Dhabi developer Baitek International Real Estate to develop launch a global chain of up-market hotels, starting in Dubai where the first hotel will open by the end of 2010.

Lorens Ziller, the managing director for Elisabetta Gucci Hotels says the first ever Gucci hotel will open in Dubai's Media City by the end of the year. The building has been completed, but work on the 87-suite interior has yet to start, Ziller said in a phone interview on Monday.

Gucci also plans hotels in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Oman and China.
