The journey to WIT begins -

We believe it's as much about the journey as the destination, so in the lead-up to WIT-Web In Travel 2009, we are launching WIT*e – Inspiration & Mentoring.

WIT*e will be a series of evening events that will bring together speakers who will inspire; industry leaders who will mentor; and companies looking for talent and talent looking for the right home.

Three WIT*e are scheduled – April 30, June 25 and August 27. Each event will feature highlight speakers and a panel discussion around the theme of inspiration and mentoring. After an approximate one-hour forum, attendees will then have the opportunity to network and move from mentor to mentor who will be asked to host tables.

"It will be like an inspiration and mentoring bazaar. You will get inspired by the big picture and then be able to get into the details of what interests you personally on a one-on-one basis with industry mentors," said Yeoh Siew Hoon, Producer of WIT. (Image right below)

WIT*e – Inspiration & Mentoring is for you:

• If you are working in travel and looking for inspiration on how to enrich your career
• If you have worked in travel and want to get back in to explore new opportunities and prospects
• If you have worked in another industry and want to explore tourism as a career
• If you are graduates or students and wondering if tourism is the right career path for you

"The idea for WIT*e came about because over the years, I've noticed there were these two groups of people in our industry – people who've done pretty well for themselves and want to share their knowledge and experience outside a formal academic environment and young talent looking to learn from real experts, again outside a formal environment.

"So I thought why not a kind of inspiration and mentoring bazaar –an event where you have relevant, meaningful content and can make relevant, meaningful connections.

"WIT*e is also particularly relevant in the current climate where there is a lot of job uncertainty and people are looking to stay motivated and energised and are looking for opportunities to enrich themselves through new learning."

The highlight speaker for the first WIT*e, scheduled for April 30 at Novotel Clarke Quay, will be Nigel Roberts, President, Marina Bay Sands. The panel will feature Robin Yap, Regional Director-Asia, Insight Vacations; Shashank Nigam, Founder & CEO, Simpliflying; and Jeannette Ho, Vice President-Marketing & Sales, Raffles Hotels & Resorts.
